In my last post about Smarty, I mentioned the arabic problem I faced with it, and said that I’ll install the arabic image (which is the whole OS files including the modifications you need) and update you with the news, I’ve updated it two weeks ago, couldn’t write the post at then, but I tweeted it as soon as I got it to work

first of all, I’ve downloaded the latest image zip file, and copied it to the sdcard, then powered Smarty off, and here are the rest of the steps to get it work perfectly.
Note: your phone must be rooted to be able to do the following steps

  • Click the power button while holding the trackball at the same time. – you’ll enter the recovery mode -
  • Choose “Boot Loader” and then “Recovery
    - to move between options use the volume up/volume down keys, and choosing is by clicking the power button -
  • Before recovering your system, you should back it up first, in case … so you’ll select “Backup/Restore” i order to backup your system
  • After the backup is done, all you need to do is to select “Wipe
  • We are almost done, all you need to do is to select the “Flash zip from sdcard” , then reboot your phone when the installation is finished, and yaaaay we’re done

Now, you’ll need to re-configure everything all over again - note you’ve just installed a whole new OS to your phone - , and doing this was really annoying me, as I kept thinking that I’d have to re-install all my favorite applications and re-join/edit the contacts, customization and so on.

I even took screenshots for the menu in order not to forget a single application I had.

And here’s were I was absolutely astonished , cause as I opened android market, and started searching for the apps, I found out that google has synchronized most of them actually, and I didn’t have to do anything at all.

This actually made me so happy, and appreciating this great effort Google makes, and it made me fell more and more for Smarty :)

Finally here’s how arabic looks on Smarty now….

A huge thank to Ayman Alsanad who made that happen, and helped all Arabic users to be able to read/write and view arabic letters on their phones.
